Warren Pilgrim Stool
Richard Warren was one of the pilgrims that sailed to America on the Mayflower. One of his descendants
approached me with a sketch of a pilgrim stool which is attributed to Richard Warren. This reproduction of the
Warren jointed stool is made from solid white oak. The overall dimensions of the stool are 18.5" high x 20.5" long
x 10" wide. The stool is constructed with turned legs and hand planed aprons and stretchers using traditional
pinned mortise and tenon joinery. The top of the stool (seat) features a decorative “S” shaped cutout. The stool
aprons are scrolled and the lower stretchers feature chamfered top edges cut with a drawknife. The edges of the
seat are rounded over and then shaped by hand with files. The stool was stained an antique oak color and
finished with wiping varnish, then waxed and buffed to a satiny sheen.
