Executive Bookcase

This bookcase was designed for the customer around a pair of very old mahogany cabinet doors that had been salvaged from an old office building during a renovation.  The cabinet doors were originally built in the 1880's and showed remarkable craftsmanship and construction.  The design for the cabinet and upper bookshelf were all based on the door dimensions and details.  Working with my favorite sawmill, I was able to get some very wide plank mahogany boards, similar to those which would have been used during furniture construction at the time the doors were made.  Similar bookcase and cabinet combinations could be done in a variety of styles and designs.  The size, style, wood selection, and coloring can be customized to suit the customer's requirements.

• Solid mahogany construction - utilizing wide boards for full grain patterns. • Raised panel sides to match cabinet door construction • Mortise and tenon and handcut dovetail joinery throughout the piece • Hand carved lamb's tongue details on corners of upper and lower case. • Book-matched back boards with stunning figure • All molding and trim details were based on period styles and designed to compliment the doors. • This bookcase was finished with a hand rubbed boiled linseed oil and a wiping varnish -  then buffed and waxed to a satiny sheen. • Other woods, styles and finishes are available
